Jarek Janis has been unstoppable in the last qualifications of the FIA GT championship and he produced behind the wheel of the Zakspeed Saleen S7R fastest lap at Adria today that brought his fourth pole position of the season.

The whole program is squeezed in just two days and the teams have been very busy today with the free practices and qualifying. Janis, Andrea Montermini and Sascha Bert were fifth in the first practice but moved to the top in the afternoon thanks to Janis’ faultless lap.

The Zakspeed team had chosen the Czech driver for the important qualifying which should have been very close due to fact that the track is just 2,7 km long. Janis paid back the faith and duly put the car to the front. He was waiting in the pits, this strategy became a bit of habit in the last events, and went out in the second half of the session. Hi second flying lap was good enough for the pole by just five hundredths.

The Czech driver drove three out of last four qualifying sessions and scored three poles. It is funny coincidence that the first three cars on the grad are the first three in the championship in reversed order – Janis with Zakspeed on pole, Piccini with Phoenix Aston Martin second and the leader Andrea Bertolini is third.

Jarek Janis: “I am really pleased with the outcome because it was very difficult today. We had known that it would be very close and it was important to find some free space on the track. I must say big thank you to the team because they monitored the situation on the track perfectly and sent me out in the right moment.

My first lap was not ideal but I knew that both tyres and brakes would be properly heated for the second lap and I gave all into it. It was close but the time difference is not important only the place itself is counted. The 70 kg ballast is something that you feel a lot and the race is going to be very demanding for the brakes. However, we will do, as usual, our best to beat our rivals. The decisive factors will be reliability, strategy and also tyres because only the race itself will show who has chosen the right compound.”
